Cargo Truck

Inspired by the functionality of cargo bikes, Uriel Eisen and I designed and built a 20 inch cargo bike with the goal of setting the world record for the most weight carried by a two-wheeled cargo bike (1000+ lbs).  While we never attempted any records, the project challenged us to expand the bicycle's functionality through design, such as built in transverse seat tubes to expand the width of the rear rack, folding foot rests to allow for ease of storage, and wider tire clearance for mounting two-three inch wide tires.

Contributions

  • Modeled all parts in Solidworks using complex features such as weldments, cavities, and surfaces

  • Evaluated tube sizes with hand calculations and Solidworks simulations

  • Cut tubing to size using a 4th axis Kern laser cutter
